Packing (+TO DO!) App Reviews

I have used this app for several years--since the first iPhone came out in 2006? 2007? I am a list maker so to have this app available adds so much flexibility and saves paper. The app has gone through a few upgrades, some better than others. The current version seems to have worked out the major bugs and improved user friendliness. Im off to Spain.

This is not an application for those who dont want their shoes to be classified as accessories (really???) or who wants to pack by outfit. If you are the kind of person who needs an app to pack 3 pairs of long pants (from the family of colorless featureless long pants that all look the same), then it may be for you. I want my lists to be defined precisely, and this app takes FOREVER. Added. Yes, I figured out how to create my own customized list of items, and even put them into outfits. The best about this app is that allows you to create new lists using old lists as a base, and it syncs across your iOS devices. The color scheme is pretty bad, though.

Heading into my third vacation season using this app and havent forgotten anything yet as a result! Money well spent.

Always been a list maker for trips but this kicks it up quite a few notches. Its fun to work on and keeps me occupied during the countdown to departure time.

I used to love this app. I used it for several trips. Lots of great features. It synced between devices so my packing lists were up to date. Then something went wrong. My iCloud data somehow became unreadable. The synching process never stopped. No matter what I did I couldnt get my customized lists back. Tech support wasnt very helpful. If my in-app purchases could transfer to the pro app then I might consider buying that, but I no longer trust this developer. Now if I want to use this app I have to start over, which I did and iCloud still doesnt work.

You can quickly put in information for a simple list, but it becomes onerous to put in more detailed data. For instance, you can assign which bag it goes in, or which person it belongs to, but doing so requires a rather clumsy second and even third edit screen. (Use of a simple pull down would eliminate the third screen.) while you can filter by person or bag, you cant sort by either of those (or better, nested by those). And unless you consider all your clothes equal, the inability to easily specify things like which color of pants you intend to pack severely limits the ability to use it as a planning tool. So, difficult to use for more than one person, or someone who is particular about their about their wardrobe. Some simple feature adds could make this really usable.

This app is pretty flexible and has a lot of great features. I like the way it can expand or collapse categories, to reduce the amount of scrolling needed.

I think I would have liked this app if I was packing for just me but its clumsy and frustrating for packing for a family if you want to easily see that you need to pack, say, jeans for example for multiple family members.

Downloaded app after seeing it advertised on Eagle Creek’s website. Started off with the $0.99 version then found that I needed to upgrade to use some features, so I upgraded to the top tier and love the functionality of this app. My learning curve took a while but I finally figured out how to navigate, set up Types and Items from scratch. Set up custom lists for different types of trips that I will assign dates as soon as I know when I’ll be traveling. Way too many features to list in this review. Had one error message and relayed it to the developer who is very approachable, personable, and extremely helpful. Awesome tech support and I’ve had no issues with this app. Best part was importing from iPad to iPhone. Worth every penny spent! Thanks, Q!

I love this app. If you take the time initially to input all your gadgets, micsellaneous items, etc. and tag them with which bag you put them in, (optional - weight), etc. the functionality is brilliant. Super easy to start using - very intuitive, and absolutely great for remembering everything you generally want to pack. I have my own list that I used to keep in a flat text file, this is a great improvement over that - however, I cant say that Ive used much of the functionality of the built-in lists. A great improvement would be for the screen where Totals are shown to display the weight that has been packed already. Unfortunately it only shows the totals of all items you have entered per category/bag, but if Ive taken the time to put in the weight of each item that I generally put in my carry-on, and I start packing and check the box for each item Ive put in the bag, it would be amazing to get an estimate of how much weight my carry on has accumulated so far. So for example, lets say I havent started packing yet, the weight should display 0.00kg. Then I put my Jambox in my carry-on, and I check it off the list in this app, the weight should now display about 0.15kg and so on and so forth as I pack more items. Id love to see the screen where you enter information for each item save by itself (both my girlfriend and myself have this app, and we frequently forget to tap save, we just hit the back arrow absentmindedly thinking the information weve put in has saved by itself

I use this on all my devices. Works seamlessly. You cant go wrong with this app!

Nice if you use their Master List but trying to customize it is not worth the time. I tried adding 2 new categories for 30 min & no matter how I saved them, I could never find them again!! I had used it several times in the past & never had this much trouble. Guess il just take it off my phone till another trip comes up. :(

Easy to use whether youre using the sample list or creating your own list. Developer responds quickly to questions.

Really like this app. Very helpful to be able to filter on people, types of objects and be able to email list to Husband and Daughter as appropriate. Love creating templates for different types of trips we do and then make copies of list to customize for specific trips. The only negative, I would really like to be able to see the People icon on the list view on my iPad mini so at a glance I can tell whose object it is. Unless there is something I am missing, I can only see whose it is by selecting the item or using a filter.

Have to pay more for Pro version. Export to contacts doesnt work. Keep getting problem with list.

I have been using this app for years to make custom lists for work and personal trips of various lengths. It has great features for the completely OCD person like indicating what items should be packed in a carry-on vs. suitcase and it now has a way to mark things you need to buy for the trip. I am a fan. My suggestions for improvement are a more attractive user interface, better exporting options, easier sharing with/sending to others, more icons for new categories, and turning off the default first-letter capitalization when entering new list items. Overall, this app totally meets my needs for a variety of trips and levels of input.

Ive been using this app for more than a year as I plan for long trips abroad. It is without question one of the best designed apps I have ever seen. Easy to set up. Easy to learn. Easy to make changes and customize. It is THE best! Congrats to the developer. Well done!

Im new to this app, but already love it. Not only is it great for packing your bags for a road trip, but Im also a repair & remodeling contractor, so Ive created categories of tools and supplies that I need to take to a job site. The categories are based on the task at bend, whether it be framing, trim, painting, etc. works great!
